Thoreau, Henry David
Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) foi um poeta, naturalista, pesquisador, historiador, filósofo transcendentalista e ativista político norte-americano. Crítico da sociedade urbana e da Revolução Industrial, em 1845, aos 27 anos, foi viver sozinho na floresta em busca de liberdade e de um contato mais íntimo com a natureza. Construiu com as próprias mãos uma cabana às margens do lago Walden, além de móveis e utensílios. Dessa experiência nasceu seu livro mais célebre: Walden – ou a vida nos bosques, considerado um clássico da literatura estadunidense, referência para o pensamento ecológico e transcendentalista até hoje. Thoreau faleceu vítima de tuberculose, aos 44 anos. |
