Larsen, Nella
Nella Larsen é uma das mais influentes escritoras da Renascença do Harlem. Natural de Chicago, foi para Nova York nos anos 1910, onde trabalhou como enfermeira e bibliotecária, casando-se em 1919 com o físico Elmer Imes, o segundo afro-americano da história dos Estados Unidos a receber um doutorado, de quem se separou em 1933. Publicou seu primeiro romance, Quicksand, em 1928, e Identidade no ano seguinte. Devido a problemas profissionais e pessoais, sua terceira obra não foi aceita para publicação, e, em 1930, ela parou de escrever. Larsen trabalhou como enfermeira em tempo integral até sua morte, em 1964. Ela não deixou herdeiros. |
