Lorde, Audre
Escritora norte-americana, filha de pais caribenhos, lésbica, negra, feminista e ativista. Graduou-se no Hunter College e em 1961 formou-se mestre em Biblioteconomia. Após publicar seu primeiro livro, The First Cities (1968), deixou Nova York por um período para uma residência no Toogaloo College, em Mississippi. Publicou também Cables to rage (1970), From a Land Where Other People Live (1973), Coal (1976), Between Our Selves (1976), The Black Unicorn (1978) e The Cancer Journals (1980), este ultimo dedicado à sua batalha contra o câncer. Em 1980, Audre Lorde criou, junto com a escritora afro-americana Barbara Smith, a editora Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press. Em 1982 publicou Zami: A new spelling of my name e, de 1984 até o ano de sua morte, viveu e trabalhou em Berlim. Em 1989, seu livro A Burst of Light (1988) ganhou o National Book Award. Seu último livro de poesia, The Marvelous Arithmetics of Distance, foi publicado postumamente em 1993. |
