Lt. Gabriel Lambert and Army Scout Amos Sullivan, leave their ravaged homeland to seek adventure west of the Mississippi where they soon find themselves in pursuit of the illusive leader of an outlaw band known as the Rangers. During the course of a frigid winter Lambert and Sullivan encounter other relocated Southerners like themselves such as Miss Montgomery of Baton Rouge, and Doc White, a former Army surgeon. After almost a year spent in the location and apprehension of the killers, multiple hangings, gunfights, and murders, he learns his town is anything but Paradise.
