RODDY DOYLE nasceu em Dublim em 1958, onde foi professor de inglês e geografia. Após algumas tentativas no teatro, seu primeiro romance, The Commitments, foi publicado sob aplausos unânimes em 1987, e filmado com grande sucesso por Alan Parker (no Brasil, Loucos pela fama). Publicou The Snapper em 1990, repetindo o sucesso. Em 1991, lançou O furgão [Estação Liberdade, 1998], selecionado para o Booker Prize, o mais prestigioso prêmio literário britânico.Tanto O furgão quanto The Snapper ganharam adaptações para o cinema dirigidas por Stephen Frears. Em 1993, Doyle foi o grande vencedor do Booker Prize com Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha, que foi durante meses o livro mais vendido na Irlanda e na Grã-Bretanha. Suas últimas obras são The Guts [2013], Two More Pints [2014] e Dead Man Talking [2015]. Dele, esta casa também publicou Os risadinhas [2000] e Uma estrela chamada Henry [2001]. |
