Foi o editor-chefe da Harper’s Magazine e editor-executivo do GQ, onde trabalhou em matérias que ganharam o prêmio Pulitzer, o Prêmio Literário PEN por jornalismo, além de vários prêmios National Magazine Award. Cox cresceu em Atlanta, no estado da Georgia, foi para a Universidade de Harvard e se graduou na Universidade de Cambridge.
